In the winter Stagecoach Reservoir freezes over and traditional fishing turns into ice fishing. The reservoir is large and there are usually ice fishers out there everyday during the season.
The park is located in Oak Creek, which is a twenty minute drive from Steamboat Springs. You’ll need auger (affiliate link) to drill thru ice, fishing rod, bait or lure, fishing license and optional ice shelter for staying warm.
There are camping spots available all along the lake, open for RVs in the winter. Snowmobiling is permitted on the lake for ice fishing access, to and from trailer. It’s not allowed anywhere else in the park. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing are two other winter activities in the park. The park office provides free snowshoe rentals.
The entrance fee for the state park is $7 per daily for a vehicle or $70 for the year. Read more about Stagecoach State Park. Find upcoming ice fishing tournaments throughout Colorado.
