Garfield County was named in honor of United States President James A. Garfield. The population was 56,389 in 2010. Glenwood Springs is both the county seat as well as the largest city.
Numerous state parks and forests are found in Garfield County, including Harvey Gap, Rifle Falls and Rifle Gap state parks.
