Park County is considered to be the geographic center of the state of Colorado. The population was 16,206 at the 2010 census.
The county was named for the large region called South Park by the region’s early fur traders and trappers. In more recent years, the fictional town in the animated television series, “South Park”, is located in Park County, Colorado.
The county seat is Fairplay. Park County has a significant mining history with gold, silver, lead and zinc all native to the land. Eleven Mile and Spinney Mountain state parks, as well as Antero and Tarryall reservoirs are found in Park County, so fishing is a big draw. The South Platte River also meanders through the region.
